Hi everyone, today i want to share to you how to install Codesys runtime on Raspberry Pi. So you can transform your Raspberry Pi into PLC and program it by using Codesys with IEC 61131-3 standard. Before we start please prepare below part materials.
- Raspberry Pi 3B / 3B+, buy it from amazon.
- Micro SD Card, get it from amazon.
- DC 5V 2.5A power Adapter, get it from amazon.
- Ethernet cable, get it amazon.
- Don't forget to flash your PI with Raspbian Stretch Lite, if you get confused i already make instruction on the previous topics Headless Setup Raspberry Pi Using Smartphone
After all the material is ready also prepare your computer for development environment. Cause we use Codesys development system, so we need to follow Codesys software requirement. Please see picture A for the requirement and also i put my laptop specification.

Follow the requirement if you don't want something not good happens. So i simplified steps of installing the runtime into 5 steps :
This is important to register your account if you want to download all Codesys application.
2. Downloading Codesys Development System & Raspberry pi package. By clicking download button you will directly get the Codesys Development System for free no need license.
3. Install Codesys Development System, once your download file finish install Codesys Development System first.

But unfortunately for the Raspberry PI Package you need invest or buy the runtime license. But don't worry you still can download the package.
3. Install Codesys Development System, once your download file finish install Codesys Development System first.
4. Install Raspberry Pi package, once your installation Codesys Development System finish, open the application and navigate to " Tools > Package Manager ".
Click install on Package Manager then find your Raspberry Pi package. Wait until the installation finish.
5. Power ON your Raspberry Pi and connect to computer by using LAN cable.
6. Install runtime to Raspberry Pi, before you install the runtime let's restart the Codesys application and re-open again. Navigate to " Tools > Update Raspberry Pi "
A new window will open then type your Raspberry Pi password, and click Scan wait until Raspberry Pi detected. After that click Install, wait until installation finish
6. Bonus, you can check whether your PI already installed the runtime or not by click System Info.
After that you can now your PI already installed runtime or not, see below picture for detail.
Finally you all success install Raspberry Pi runtime, and your PI already transform as a PLC with IEC-61131 standard, and please take note this instruction is only installing runtime on your PI not activated the runtime by the license, so the runtime only can run 2 hour after your PI is turn On.
